Our first chapter, filmed in Ecuador, explores what it means to be queer and displaced in a country that is both a destination and a passageway for many LGBTQ+ migrants. Through deeply personal stories of survival, activism, and self-expression, we shed light on the challenges and resilience of queer lives facing systemic exclusion and rising anti-LGBTQ+ backlash.

We’re excited to share the first trailer , offering a glimpse into the powerful voices and experiences we’ve captured so far. The project is grounded in over 30 in-depth interviews with migrants, trans organizers, artists, and public figures at the forefront of change in Ecuador.

Currently, we’re raising funds to complete the first documentary, which will enable us to build a digital visual archive — a lasting resource for activists, educators, and communities to access these stories and testimonies in their entirety.

What started as a documentary about LGBTQ+ migration grew into something so much bigger than I imagined. Over a few months, I interviewed more than 30 people—activists, migrants, artists, and organizers—across Quito, Guayaquil, and Cuenca. I heard stories of displacement, violence, and survival. But also of chosen family, joy, and radical imagination.

We’re now editing the documentary, and it’s just the beginning.

The project has evolved into something we’re calling Queer Latitudes, a growing visual archive that centers queer stories across borders. Ecuador is the first chapter. But the goal is bigger: to document queer migration, community, and resistance across countries, regions, and identities. To create a living archive of voices that are too often erased.
